Comparison Of Contents Page

 These two contents pages have been taken from both VIBE and The Source. The background colour of VIBE is red, the text colour is white and any additional colours are black. The white texts works well in contrasting against the red background. This allows the text to stand out and to be read easier and quicker. It is not too complicated and does not look to busy which in my opinion is a great convention for a contents page to have. The source on the other hand has a white background with red and black writing. The red and black writing also works great with the white background and contrasts well. It makes the text to be visual and to be seen easily. The source is easier to read, as the writing is clear and bold, wear as in VIBE the writing is small and written on the left hand side of the page.

The VIBE contents page is mainly targeted towards the male audience as this is represented through the image and the typeface of the contents page. The typeface of this contents page is bold and clear, it also creates great effect. The image is the real representation of how it is targeted towards the male audience as the image is of a man who is presented in a very powerful manner. The character is wearing no shirt, and his tattoos are visual. He is also wearing and chewing a number of silver and gold chains. The character also has gold teeth which represents the power he has. The facial expressions also express this as he is showing a calm and powerful look with a black hat that is worn backwards. The Source is also targeted towards the male audience as the typeface, and the image used represent this. The typeface like VIBE is also written in bold and is visual. The image also shows the representation that this is targeted towards the male foundation as the image is of a black well known rapper “Lil Wayne” who is carrying alcohol in his hand and wearing a black hate backwards with sunglasses. This represents great power.

Out of the two contents pages I think that VIBE is more eye catching and shows great power. I think that VIBE is better presented in terms of powerfulness as the image represents great power and the colours used on the contents page really do work together well. VIBE is also effective as even though it does not have as much information on the page as The Source does, it still works well as the writing is written in the left side of the contents page, which is well laid out as it is the first place we look. The details are clear as it shows who would feature in the magazine and the written colour contrasts well with the red background.
