The first part of my preliminary task that I had done was to get an appropriate image that would meet the requirements of the topic, which was school education. My main idea was to do a magazine based upon the exams that students would be sitting in January. I first took a picture of a colleague studying. I wanted to create a working atmosphere so the use of the stacked up books played a great part.
The second part of my creation of the magazine cover to symbolise the stress of exams was to create a mast head for my magazine cover. Choosing the appropriate colour was important as I had to choose accordingly, as I did not want it to clash with my background so chose to do red. I chose to name my magazine cover “HSC. CRUNCH TIME” as I thought this was effective to use and would be appealing.
The third part on which I had worked on was to get a image to go on left hand side of the magazine cover to show what the magazine would include. I chose to do a group of A* students on results day to show how important the exam period is.
I then had to come up with a cover line. This is the 2nd biggest heading on the magazine after the master head and therefore I had to make sure that it was appealing and eye catching. With the group of students I had used I had linked my cover head with them saying “pressure on to beat the previous year’s success” as by this I wanted to create a sense of anxiousness and to catch the viewers eyes.
After I done my cover line my main target was to make the magazine look good and attractive so I therefore used a yellow effect on the group of student’s picture. I had done this to create an image of a target as with the use of the yellow effect it made it look like it was a dream that students would want to be chasing.
One of the key elements of my magazine was to create a imaginative and effective background, so I therefore chose to have a fade effect. I faded the original background and kept the picture of my partner clear to show good effect and make the picture of my partner more appealing.
The next step was then to make a selling line, as I chose to attract more people into purchasing my magazine by offering the chance for people to WIN! Cultural fusion shows tickets. I think that this was an intelligent aspect to add in as it would make my magazine more sellable as the cultural fusion has always been a success and a hard to get ticket event.
The next part in creating my magazine was to add a barcode to my magazine which is placed on the top right hand side of the magazine cover. A barcode is an important factor to have in a magazine as it makes the magazine realistic, without the use of a barcode the magazine would be worthless.
The next part I had done was to add in the price of the magazine cover at which I had priced at £2. Along with the price I had also added an issue number to give my magazine cover a sense of realism and make it look realistic.
The final part of my preliminary magazine cover was to add in a website of the magazine. This was an important factor as I want to make the magazine look as realistic as possible with real professionalism.
